On January 19th 2015, I was laying in bed in my University dorm room bored out of my mind. I didn’t really feel like doing anything – studying Commerce was frustrating and my then roommate was away hanging out with friends. Normally, when I stay indoors all I ever do is write. Writing is the only hobby that has been consistent throughout my life! I wouldn’t call myself a writer though, I don’t really think I fit in that calibre yet. It’s just that, expressing my thoughts and opinions has always been easier for me in writing; I am a terrible storyteller when I have to do it orally but I do quite well in writing ( If I do say so myself)
As usual, I wrote an article on a topic I can’t remember (but you can definitely check out my first published post) then I thought, “What if I shared this with people?” I was a member of the University’s journalism club and during our meetings I had heard most people talk about their “blogs” but it never really appealed to me till that point. I always sent my “articles” ( since primary school) to local magazines and newspapers but I never got published or got any feedback whatsoever so I knew I was a terrible “writer” and that was fine. I then did my research on blogs/ and I set up my blog not knowing what I’m getting myself into – I published my first post on the same very day and it was so exciting.
The whole journey has been eye-opening and interesting. I didn’t know what the end goal was for my blog when I started out, I just innocently wanted to share my articles, get something that will take my mind off commerce and anonymously be goofy on the internet. I am at peace with the fact that I can’t be a “writer” but then I learnt of a new term that I’m supposed to wrap my head around, “A BLOGGER”
When you are in the outside world, a blogger simply means a person who regularly writes material for a blog. But when you step foot in this world, things change! It’s been three years and I can’t seem to fit into this title – there’s always a roadblock;
A blogger, needs to have a niche! Well, sorry but I like what I like.
A blogger must take excellent photos with a DSLR! Uhm! I’m working on that
A blogger need to have flat lays … You should be consistent! You need to work with brands! and Collaborate! Uh O- okaaay got that. What about my content is it good enough? What should I do to improve my content?
Well, that doesn’t really matter!!!
So, I’m left wondering will I ever fit in this “Blogger Box?” and is it really worth the hype? I just want do me and be great at it you know… inspire people, to live out my dream of sharing and expressing my thoughts and entertain all lonely and bored fellas in their dorm rooms. Is that too much to ask for?
Happy 3 year Anniversary FODREAMY! Cheers xo
On that note, I’ll leave links to 3 of my all time favourite blog posts. Thank you for riding with me lovely people.
